Dabney's window-seat shortlist

Eight browser games to sip through
while the rain runs down the glass

When the shower on Spoutwell High Street settles in for the afternoon, Dabney keeps a list of eight free browser games for the regulars on the window seat. They run from a medieval farm village and a fossil-hatched dinosaur park to a player-run space economy, a hockey club, a football club, a fortress under siege, a tank base and a dark fantasy quest, and the lot of them open in an everyday browser window.

The roaster's favourite

My Little Farmies

Medieval village and workshop sim · Farm, town & zoo

Dabney likes this one because it works the way a roastery does: raw goods come in, workshops turn them into something better, and the townsfolk queue for the result. Fields get sown, workshops stay busy and a medieval village grows through production chains instead of battles, so there is never a raid waiting when you come back.

Good for
Builders who prefer crafting and planning to fighting.

Price for all 8: free to play, with in-game purchases optional.

01

No charge at the counter

Signing up is free at all eight, and every one can be played for months without spending; the villages, parks, clubs and battles all come in full.

Every studio has a shop on the side for shortcuts and trimmings. Plenty of veteran players leave it shut, and households that share a laptop can normally cap spending from the account options.

02

Opening a new tab

Tap the button for a game and a new tab opens on the official site of its studio. Give that site an email address and, a few minutes later, your village, park, club or base is waiting.

All eight begin with a guided opening. Stay with it until it lets go, as it explains the menus and the economy a cup at a time.

03

A cup-sized visit or a long afternoon

The games carry on when the tab is shut: crops ripen, eggs hatch, the daily hockey match is played and walls go up. A quick look with breakfast and another in the evening keeps you on track.

Keep short visits for harvesting, queueing builds and a chat with your alliance or league. Save the wet afternoons for big decisions, like a new production chain, a fresh enclosure or the next siege.

04

Keeping your login dry

Every login lives with the studio that publishes the game, so enter it only on the web address the studio itself lists. Keep one password per title, never shared between them, and say yes to any extra login check on offer.

No genuine studio worker will ask for your password. Messages swapping premium currency for your login details are fishing for the account, so report it and let it go cold like a forgotten espresso.

Why these eight earned a place on the window seat

  • All eight open in a laptop or desktop browser, so the game is ready before your flat white has cooled.
  • Not one of them charges at the door, and regulars who never glance at a shop still get the full game.
  • Crops, eggs, clubs and walls keep brewing after you close the window, so even a quick look turns up something finished.
  • Every studio on the list has kept its game going for a long while, so there are settled crowds to fall in with.

No. A computer browser runs all eight; My Little Farmies, Dinosaur Park: Primeval Zoo and Hockey Arena can be carried on a phone too, through their official apps.

Signing up and playing are free at every one, and the complete game is there without spending; any in-game shopping is optional.

No. Dabney only pours the coffee. Eight separate studios build and look after these games, and every button on this page leads to the right official studio site.

No. With a different studio behind each game, you register eight times over, free every time.

My Little Farmies, Dinosaur Park: Primeval Zoo and Hockey Arena have official phone apps alongside the browser edition. Combat Siege, War Commander, Prosperous Universe, goalunited LEGENDS and Drakensang Online are browser-only titles, best enjoyed on a computer.

Hockey Arena, with a match every day, or a quick harvest in My Little Farmies. Prosperous Universe and the two siege and base games reward longer sessions of planning.

Yes. Combat Siege has alliances, Drakensang Online has co-op dungeons, the hockey and football clubs face other managers, and the farm, park, space and base games all share their worlds with other players.
